Equipment, Supplies, and Care for Honduras

Despite the inability to travel to Honduras during this pandemic, the VHC Medical Brigade continues to seek ways to provide for our partners in Comayagua and in the remote villages. Most recently, our team sent a 40-foot container filled with donated supplies and equipment from our warehouse in Virginia for use in local hospitals (La Paz, Hospital Escuela, San Benito Jose, and Sta Teresa) and in clinics (El Ayudante and rural village clinics).

Some of these items are listed below. We depend on generous donations of gifts in kind to support Honduran healthcare facilities. To learn more and make a donation, please contact us.

Patient care and personal hygiene

• 100 hygiene kits (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, comb)

• 100 baby blankets and knitted caps (perfect for newborns)

• 100 stuffed animals (post-surgery comfort)

• Crayons and pencils for children in school

Rehabilitation

• 50 walkers, 15 wheelchairs, 20 pairs of crutches

• Exercise bike for CRIC, a local rehab clinic

Medication for rural clinics:

• Children’s Tylenol

• Adult and children’s antibiotics (amoxicillin)

General equipment and supplies

• 2 exam tables for clinics

• 2 baby scales

• 1 ultrasound machine (diagnostic tool)

• 2 large metro carts for storage

• 3 ventilators (2 adult and 1 pediatric)

• 10 laryngoscopes

• 8 oxygen flow meters

• Dressing materials for use in clinics

• 1000 face masks (N95 and KN95)

• 400 protective gowns

Surgical equipment and supplies

• 4 surgical stretchers

• 11 cardiac monitors (essential equipment for emergency rooms and post-anesthesia care units, for monitoring heart rhythms, blood pressure and oxygen saturation)

• 3 pulse oximeters on rolling stands (essential to monitor oxygen saturation in hospitals and clinics)

• 4 surge protectors (to protect electric monitoring equipment when power goes on and off suddenly)

• Epidural trays for anesthesia

• 100 minor surgical trays

• 2 orthopedic headlights for surgery

• Surgical packs (critical components for surgery)

• 20 boxes of surgical sutures

• 2000 pairs of surgical gloves
