Carrying Katie - Katie's Story

Last November, our rehabilitation team met a 27-year-old woman with severe disabilities through our partnership with the Comayagua Rehabilitation Center (CRIC). Katie and her mother had arrived at CRIC after traveling for over an hour in the back of a pickup truck from a remote mountain village.

Neither of them had a bed to sleep in, and whenever they left the house, Katie's mother carried her, because they had no other means of getting around.

We snapped into action, teaming up with occupational therapist Colleen Murphy to rebuild and restructure a wheelchair for Katie. This custom wheelchair not only helps with her alignment, posture, and tone, but also gives them an easier mode of transportation and is adjustable to ensure Katie is always secure and comfortable.
